Director: Joss Whedon
Starring: Robert Downey Jr., Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo

Rating: 12A

Having watched all the Marvel films I thought it was only best to carry on with my nerdy side and watch the ultimate Marvel film.

The start of the film is promising with quite a lot of action, although if you haven’t seen the previous Marvel films (particularly Thor) you most likely won’t be following quite so well.

It is basically about Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) who needs to put together the Avengers Assemble in order to stop Loki (Tom Hiddleston), Thor’s brother, and his army from another world destroying Earth. So, he rounds up the Scooby Gang (not literally), which includes Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Captain America (Chris Evans), Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and the Hulk (Mark Ruffalo).

After the first 15 minutes, I was slightly disappointed with the way the film was progressing. I was expecting a lot more action than what was delivered. For approximately 30 minutes it was quite tedious, and there wasn’t much to watch. In all honesty, I nearly fell asleep. I also found it difficult to watch in parts due to Black Widow and exactly what part she played within the story. I think she may have been involved a little too much as she isn’t really a big Marvel character.

Once I got past that, it picked up and became very exciting. I was wide-awake and ready to go once the punches started flying. Not only were the action scenes much better than expected and highly entertaining, but also the humour used was brilliant. There were parts where everyone was laughing so hard we completely missed the next part of the film. Some great effects were used, and there were definitely some tense, white-knuckle moments.

If you love Marvel you’ve probably already seen this, and know that it’s definitely worth the watch. But if not, do your research (watch previous Marvel films) and get to the cinemas ASAP!

Verdict: 3 out of 5
